Everything You Need to Help Your Little Sunflower Thrive

At Donna’s Kidz Sunflower Academy, we believe strong communication and family partnerships are an important part of providing quality childcare.

We’ve gathered some of the most important information families need to help each day run smoothly. For complete policies and procedures, families should refer to the Donna’s Kidz Sunflower Academy Family Handbook.

Hours of Operation

Monday–Friday
6:00 a.m.–5:30 p.m.

Donna’s Kidz Sunflower Academy closes promptly at 5:30 p.m. Families should contact the Director or Assistant Director as soon as possible if they anticipate being late for pickup. Late pickup fees apply.

Arrival & Pick-Up

Parents or authorized guardians are required to sign children in and out each day using Brightwheel.

For the safety of every child, children will only be released to individuals listed on the Authorized Pick-Up Form unless alternate arrangements have been approved.

Parents are encouraged to send a text approximately five minutes before arriving for pickup so staff can prepare the child and their belongings.

Children should arrive no later than 11:00 a.m. Children arriving after 11:00 a.m. will only be admitted with a valid written excuse for an approved appointment or circumstance.

Meals & Snacks

Donna’s Kidz Sunflower Academy participates in the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) and provides nutritious meals and snacks throughout the day.

Children are provided:

  • Breakfast
  • Morning snack
  • Lunch
  • Afternoon snack

Outside food and drinks are not permitted unless approved by the Director.

Parents must notify the academy in writing of any food allergies, sensitivities, dietary restrictions, or medical dietary needs. Physician documentation may be required for certain accommodations.

What to Bring for Infants

Families with infants should provide:

  • Pre-made bottles clearly labeled with the child’s full name and date
  • Diapers and wipes
  • At least two complete changes of clothing
  • Any special formula, breast milk, or dietary items their child requires
  • A clearly labeled pacifier, if used

Families may provide a bulk supply of diapers and wipes or send a minimum of eight diapers per day.

Donna’s Kidz Sunflower Academy follows safe sleep guidelines and licensing requirements. Infants are placed on their backs to sleep in approved cribs or play yards unless written instructions from a licensed physician state otherwise.

What to Bring for Toddlers

Parents are responsible for providing diapers, pull-ups, and wipes as needed.

Children who are potty training should also have at least two complete changes of clothing available in case of accidents.

Children ages 1–5 have a scheduled daily nap/rest period from 11:30 a.m.–2:30 p.m. Donna’s Kidz provides an individual cot or sleeping mat, and parents should provide a blanket for their child.

Health & Illness

Keeping our children and staff healthy is a shared responsibility.

Children displaying symptoms of illness may need to remain home or be picked up from the academy. Depending on the illness, children may be required to remain out of care until they have been symptom-free for at least 24 hours without medication and are able to comfortably participate in normal activities.

Donna’s Kidz maintains specific policies for fever, vomiting, diarrhea, pink eye, strep throat, RSV, ringworm, chicken pox, and other illnesses.

Please refer to the Family Handbook for complete illness exclusion and return-to-care requirements.

Medication

Medication will only be administered when necessary and when proper authorization has been provided by the child’s parent or legal guardian.

A completed Medication Authorization Form is required. Medications must be in their original containers, clearly labeled with the child’s full name, and handed directly to an appropriate staff member.

Over-the-counter medications are not administered by Donna’s Kidz Sunflower Academy staff.

Please review the Family Handbook for complete medication requirements.

Tuition & Brightwheel

Donna’s Kidz Sunflower Academy uses Brightwheel for tuition and fee payments as well as daily sign-in and sign-out.

Tuition is due every Thursday for the upcoming week of care and must be paid in advance. Parents are responsible for maintaining a valid payment method through Brightwheel.

Please refer to the Family Handbook for complete payment and late-fee policies.

Holiday & Weather Closings

Donna’s Kidz Sunflower Academy follows Huntsville City Schools' recommendations for inclement weather and emergency closings.

Families may be notified of weather-related closings through Brightwheel, mass text message, Facebook, or the center voicemail.

The academy also observes scheduled holidays and planned closures throughout the year. Families will receive advance notice of other scheduled closings whenever possible.

Safety Comes First

The safety and well-being of every child is our highest priority.

Donna’s Kidz maintains procedures for emergencies, evacuations, injuries and incidents, authorized pickup, safe sleep, positive guidance, and other situations affecting children in our care.

Children are only released to authorized individuals, and photo identification may be required at pickup.
